It's always important to keep up to date with your investment options.
When you join the Super SA Income Stream, you can choose to invest your super across any combination of the investment options available to you. If you don’t choose an investment option your funds will automatically be invested 60% in Moderate and 40% in Conservative options.
If you decide to switch your investments options you just need to keep in mind that you can't switch within seven business days of opening your account.
Before choosing an investment option you should think about:
- your current financial position
- your age
- your plans for the future
- how long your Income Stream will need to last
- your risk and return preferences.
Each option has different objectives and characteristics for you to consider.
|Investment Option||Target rate of return1||Investment Horizon||Risk of negative return|
|High Growth||Inflation + 4.5%||10 yrs +||On average 4 to 6 years in 20|
|Socially Responsible||The Socially Responsible option provides investors with risk and return characteristics likely to be similar to that of an industry growth fund. The risk of negative return is on average 4 to 6 years in 20.|
|Balanced||Inflation + 3.5%||10 yrs +||On average 4 to 6 years in 20|
|Moderate||Inflation + 3.0%||6 yrs +||On average 3 to 4 years in 20|
|Conservative||Inflation + 2.0%||4 yrs +||On average 2 to 3 years in 20|
|Capital Defensive||Inflation + 1%||2 yrs +||On average between 0.5 and one year in 20|

Generally speaking, as the risk of negative return rises, so does the potential for a higher return.
As well as understanding the general risks of investing it's important to consider the level of risk involved with each investment option.

1 Investment objectives state what each option aims to achieve. They are designed to help members with their investment decisions. The objectives have been developed having regard for the long term performance and characteristics of financial markets and taking into account expert advice provided by specialist investment advisor, JANA. There is no guarantee, however, that the objectives will be met. This is because financial markets are volatile and future returns may vary from past returns. Indeed, for funds with exposure to growth assets there is a material likelihood that returns may be negative in any particular year.
2 Please note, the Growth option will no longer be available after 25 January 2021.
Rates of return give you a recent and longer term perspective of how each option has performed. It is important to remember that past performance should not be taken as an indication of future performance. Analyse returns in relation to the performance of the market as a whole to get the big picture.
