Balanced
Click below on the investment option you are interested in learning more about.
When you join Triple S, your super is invested in the Balanced option. There are several pre-mixed investment options to choose from and you can switch your investment options at any time.
If you’re an existing Triple S member who’s still employed by the SA public sector, you can invest your super across any number of the eight available investment options.
You are also able to invest your current account balance and future contributions in different investment options.
Before choosing an investment option you should think about:
- your current financial position
- your age
- when you plan to retire
- how long your super will need to last
- your risk and return preferences.
Each option has different objectives and characteristics for you to consider.
Please note the Growth investment option will no longer be available after 25 January 2021.

Our Balanced investment option is the funds default option for all Triple S members on commencement of membership. Over 90% of members have their money invested in this option.
This option is structured for investors with an investment time horizon of at least 10 years. This option is invested in the range of 60 - 90% in growth assets (shares, certain types of property, private equity and other growth opportunities) and the balance in defensive assets (such as cash and fixed interest).
Investment Objectives
The Balanced investment option is expected to return 3.5% above CPI over an investment time horizon of at least 10 years.
Investment objectives state what each option aims to achieve. They are designed to help members with their investment decisions. The objectives have been developed having regard for the long term performance and characteristics of financial markets and taking into account expert advice provided by specialist investment advisor, JANA. There is no guarantee, however, that the objectives will be met. This is because financial markets are volatile and future returns may vary from past returns. Indeed, for funds with exposure to growth assets there is a material likelihood that returns may be negative in any particular year.

Finding the right investment can be complicated.
Investment Performance
Rates of return give you a recent and longer-term perspective of how each option has performed. It is important to remember that past performance should not be taken as an indication of future performance. Keep in mind that Triple S is a tax deferred scheme which means returns are reported without taking tax into account. Most other funds are taxed funds and report their investment earnings after tax.

Asset allocations are the building blocks of your investment with Super SA
The investment objectives state the aims of each investment option and are designed to help members with their investment decisions. Our Investment manager, Funds SA, designs the investment objectives of each option by ensuring that they consider the characteristics and long-term performance of financial markets, and also taking into account expert advice provided by Funds SA’s specialist investment advisor, JANA1.
1 JANA Investment Advisers were appointed as Funds SA’s primary asset consultant in 2017. JANA provides Funds SA with investment consulting on a broad range of investment strategy and research topics.
Each year Funds SA formally reviews Investment Strategy to assess whether the Long-Term Strategic Asset Allocation (LTSAA) of the investment options remain appropriate. At Super SA, we also regularly review the investment strategies and options available to you, as a member of the Triple S scheme. We do this to ensure they reflect important shifts in investment markets and the superannuation sector.
In August of 2019, the review of the Triple S investment options has led to changes reflecting shifts within investment markets and the superannuation sector (which you can read about here).
